When your skin is reactive, what it wants is quiet. A heavy cream sits on the surface, catches under makeup, and by mid-morning your face feels covered rather than comfortable.

Ceramide Barrier Cream is newly reformulated to be lighter. Every ingredient is the same one that was there before. The proportions changed, so it sinks in faster and sits closer to the skin. A light daytime moisturizer, and still comfortable enough for night.

The lipids are what this cream is for, so it leads with a full complex.

Three ceramides, NP, AP and EOP, alongside cholesterol and phytosphingosine. That grouping matters because it is the same family of lipids skin makes for itself, in roughly the proportions it uses them. They condition the skin and leave the finish soft, and the cream is formulated to support your skin’s moisture barrier.

There are no acids and no actives alongside them, which is why this can be an everyday layer rather than something you ration.

Left out on purpose

No added fragrance and no essential oils. No exfoliating acids and no actives. Nothing was taken out in the reformulation either, and nothing was added. The proportions were reworked, and that is the whole of it.

Unscented rather than fragrance-free, and the reason is a preservative rather than a scent. Nothing was added to make this smell like anything. As a water-based cream it needs a preservative system, and the certified one used here includes benzyl alcohol, which is a declarable fragrance allergen on EU labels. Our waterless oils carry none at all.

How to use it

After your serum or oil

Use as the moisturizing step, after your essence, serum, or facial oil.

Start with less than you used to

A small amount on clean fingertips, warmed briefly. The new texture spreads further than the old one, so the amount that used to be right will be more than you need. Begin small and add if you want it.

Press it in, slowly

Press and smooth gently over the face and neck until it sinks in. No rubbing, no pulling. Let your shoulders drop while you do it.

Morning and night

Twice daily. Light enough to be your daytime moisturizer, and comfortable enough to be your night one.

Where it sits

Last in the morning, after your essence and serum. It can be the final step on its own.

I formulate for skin that reacts to almost everything, including my own. So I build for less, and I name all of it. Here is everything in the jar, written for anyone with a specific allergy.

The Skin LipidsCeramides NP, AP, EOP, phytosphingosine, cholesterol · hero

The skin-identical lipids at the heart of the cream, the same family skin makes itself. One honest note on the cholesterol: in skincare it is usually plant-derived, and it can also come from lanolin, which is sheep’s wool. If you have a wool or lanolin allergy, which is more common in eczema-prone skin, it is worth confirming the source with us first. We have not closed that question yet, and we would rather say so.

Benzyl AlcoholECOCERT-permitted preservative · read this one

Part of the system that keeps this water-based cream stable. It is here as a preservative rather than a scent ingredient, and it is also a declarable fragrance allergen on EU labels. That is the one reason this cream is labelled unscented rather than fragrance-free, and it is worth knowing if you react to fragrance ingredients.

Hydrating ingredients from fermentation and a botanical mushroom. They are named plainly here for anyone sensitive to yeast, ferments, or mould, which is a real consideration for some reactive skin.

Shea, Squalane & the soothersButyrospermum Parkii, Squalane, Aloe, Allantoin, Panthenol, Green Tea

The cushioning, soothing base. Shea is tree-nut derived, so this is the note for a tree-nut allergy. It is named plainly here so you can weigh it against your own history. The squalane, aloe, allantoin, panthenol and green tea are the comforting half of the base.

Texture, preservation & vitamin EEmulsifiers, cetearyl and cetyl alcohol, xanthan gum, carbomer, dehydroacetic acid, tocopherol

The emulsifiers and gentle preservation that make a stable water-based cream. Cetearyl and cetyl alcohol are occasional contact sensitizers. The vitamin E is sunflower-derived, never soy, so it carries a light sunflower and ragweed (Asteraceae) note. All are highly purified.

That is everything in the jar. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, the shea if you react to tree nuts, the fermented and mushroom ingredients if you are yeast- or mould-sensitive, the benzyl alcohol if you react to fragrance ingredients, or the cholesterol if you have a lanolin allergy, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.

Care and keepingHow long a jar lasts, why it is preserved, and keeping it clean

How long a jar lasts

It is a press-in cream rather than a slather-on one, so the amount you need is smaller than the habit suggests, and the lighter texture spreads further still.

We have not printed a month figure. The old one was measured on the old texture, and a cream that spreads further will not last the same length of time.

Whether it is preserved, and why

Yes, and this one has to be. It is a water-based cream, built on aloe vera leaf water, and water is what makes a preservative necessary. Without one, a cream like this would not be safe to keep on a bathroom shelf.

The system includes benzyl alcohol, which is the whole reason this cream is called unscented and never fragrance-free. The allergens note above says what that means if you react to fragrance ingredients. If you want a facial step with no benzyl alcohol at all, the Hydrate Cleansing Bar and our waterless oils carry none.

Storing it, and keeping water out

Cool, out of direct sun, lid on between uses. Because it is water-based, scoop with dry fingers or a small spatula rather than wet hands, and keep the jar off the wet edge of the sink. A preserved cream is protected, and it still does better when you are not adding tap water to it twice a day.

If it arrives warm, and when to stop

Softening in a hot mailbox is normal. Let the closed jar sit somewhere cool and it will come back to its usual texture.

If it arrives separated, with a watery or oily layer sitting apart from the cream, that is different. Do not use it. Send us a photograph and we will replace it. This is an emulsion of water and lipids, and a split jar is not something to stir back together or work around. We would always rather send another one.
