i. The Signal

When brightening has always come with a sting.

For reactive skin, brightening usually arrives as acid. A glycolic wash, a lactic peel, a vitamin C that burns on contact. You get a fresher-looking finish, and you pay for it with days of raw, tight skin. After enough of those trades, most people stop reaching for anything labeled brightening at all.

The Brighten Cleansing Bar was built for the people who gave up on that category.

ii. The Ritual

A daily cleanse that leaves skin looking fresh and more radiant.

A creamy, low-foam bar built around fruit-derived vitamin C. Camu camu, kakadu plum, and baobab are among the richest natural sources of it, carried in a cocoa and shea butter base that keeps the whole cleanse soft. Papaya fruit powder adds a gentle enzymatic touch, and soft kaolin clay does the clarifying work that harsher formulas hand to acids.

Skin is left feeling clean and comfortable, with a brighter, more even-looking finish. There are no free acids in the bar, and none anywhere in the facial line.

Made for skin that

looks dull or uneven and reacts to acids
wants brightness without a sting
is sensitive, reactive, or easily overwhelmed
prefers a creamy, low-foam wash to foam

iii. The Standard

How the brightening actually gets done.

Every brightening choice here had to meet the same standard as the rest of the line: gentle enough for a face that reacts to almost everything.

Vitamin C from fruitCamu camu, kakadu plum, and baobab powders, among the richest natural sources of vitamin C, for a brighter, more even-looking finish.
A gentle enzymatic touchPapaya fruit powder for soft, non-abrasive renewal, with no free acids in the formula.
Soft clay, mild cleanseKaolin gently clarifies on a mild coconut-derived cleanser that washes without stripping.
Genuinely fragrance-freeNo synthetic fragrance, no essential oils, no benzyl alcohol. The soft cocoa note is the raw cocoa butter itself.

Slow-melting and nutrient-dense. Most customers enjoy one bar for 6–12 months.

PM ritual

Use as your first or second cleanse after removing sunscreen or makeup. Massage gently in small circles and rinse with lukewarm water.

For reactive skin

No scrubbing needed. Use light pressure, avoid hot water, and let the creamy lather do the work. Avoid the eye area.

Autoimmune & Sensitivity Transparency

A brightening cleanse with no acids, and open about every ingredient.

I formulate for bodies that react to almost everything, including my own, so I build for less and I name all of it. The Brighten Cleansing Bar is a creamy, low-foam cleanse that gets its brightness from fruit rather than acid: genuinely fragrance-free, essential oil-free, gluten-free, and free of any exfoliating acid. If you are navigating an autoimmune condition, MCAS, eczema, psoriasis, or skin that is easily overwhelmed, this is a brightening step meant to feel like care. Here is the full picture, including the two ingredients worth a closer look.

Why it’s made for reactive skin

Genuinely fragrance-freeNo synthetic fragrance and no essential oils, and no benzyl alcohol, so the claim holds without a caveat.
Brightness without acidThe vitamin C comes from camu camu, kakadu plum, and baobab fruit powders. There is no glycolic, lactic, or ascorbic acid in the bar.
Gluten-free, with certified GF oatsThe bar is formulated without gluten, and the only grain in it, oats, comes certified gluten-free.
100% natural preservationPreserved with an ECOCERT-certified natural system, gentle on reactive skin.
A mild, non-stripping cleanseA coconut-derived cleanser with no sulfates and no squeak, in a cocoa and shea butter base.

Genuinely fragrance-free

This is one of the products I can call fragrance-free without a caveat. There is no synthetic fragrance and no essential oils, and the natural preservation system contains none of the benzyl alcohol that, as a declarable fragrance allergen, keeps the water-based butters from carrying that claim. The soft cocoa note you may notice is simply the raw cocoa butter itself.

Two ingredients in the latex-fruit group

This bar contains avocado oil and papaya fruit powder. Both sit in the latex-fruit cross-reactivity group, which matters to a small number of people with a latex allergy. Neither is hidden in a blend or a fragrance. They are named on the label and named here so you can decide before you buy. If latex cross-reactivity is part of your picture, patch test first, alongside your doctors, never instead.

Gluten-free, and specific about it

This bar is gluten-free: it is formulated without any gluten-containing ingredients, and the one grain it does contain, oat kernel flour, comes certified gluten-free, tested to the below-20 ppm standard. To be precise, that certification is on the oats, not on the finished bar. The full detail, including the note on avenin, is in the ingredient list below.

Every ingredient, named

Here is everything in the bar, nothing hidden and nothing cherry-picked. The notes below are written for anyone who avoids gluten grains, carries a latex-fruit cross-reactivity, or has a specific oat, coconut, or mold sensitivity, so you can decide with the full facts in hand.

Open the full ingredient list
Camu Camu, Kakadu Plum & BaobabMyrciaria Dubia, Terminalia Ferdinandiana, Adansonia Digitata
The brightening trio, all whole fruit powders and among the richest natural sources of vitamin C. Fruit-derived rather than acid-derived, which is why the bar can brighten the look of skin without a sting.

Papaya Fruit PowderCarica Papaya · latex-fruit group
A gentle fruit enzyme for soft, non-abrasive renewal. Papaya sits in the latex-fruit cross-reactivity group, so it is named plainly for anyone with a latex allergy.

Avocado OilPersea Gratissima · latex-fruit group
A conditioning plant oil that keeps the cleanse soft. Avocado also sits in the latex-fruit group; worth a patch test if that applies to you.

Cocoa, Shea & CoconutTheobroma Cacao, Butyrospermum Parkii, Cocos Nucifera
The nourishing base, and the source of the soft natural cocoa note. Shea is tree-derived and clinically low-allergen even for tree-nut-reactive skin. Coconut milk powder is a plant milk, named here for anyone with a coconut allergy.

Oat Kernel FlourAvena Sativa · certified gluten-free
Soothing and cushioning for most skin. The oats here are certified gluten-free, sourced and tested to the below-20 ppm standard, so they do not carry gluten from neighboring grains. Two honest notes remain: oats naturally contain avenin, a protein a small number of people with celiac react to on its own; and oat is a contact allergen for a small number of people, most often those with eczema. If either applies to you, decide alongside your doctors, never instead.

Sodium Cocoyl IsethionateCoconut-derived cleanser
The mild cleanser behind the creamy, low-foam lather, far gentler than sulfates. Coconut-derived, so worth noting only if you have a coconut allergy.

Snow MushroomTremella Fuciformis
A hydrating botanical used across the line. It is a mushroom, so a small number of people with mold or fungal sensitivity prefer to know it is here.

Kaolin, Gotu Kola, Green Tea & RosehipClay and soothing botanicals
Soft clarifying clay with calming gotu kola, antioxidant green tea, and conditioning rosehip fruit oil. All low-reactivity. Gotu kola is Apiaceae, named here for completeness.

Supporting baseStearic acid, polyglyceryl-4 oleate, sodium phytate
Structure, texture, and stability. All well tolerated.

Natural preservationGluconolactone, sodium benzoate · ECOCERT
A 100% natural preservation system, and the reason this bar can be called fragrance-free, with none of the benzyl alcohol the water-based products carry.

That is everything. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.
