Good to know

A small scoop is the whole dose
The cool is strong, so you use less than you think, and a jar stretches a long way. At $34 for the 2 oz that works out to roughly a dime an application, and usually less. The 4 oz at $58 lasts longer still.

A guided ritual, with your jar
Your purchase unlocks the Magnesium Ritual, a five-minute guided evening practice to follow while the butter warms into your skin. It’s part of Rooted & Well, the community that opens with your first order.

i. The Signal

When you want the cool, and CBD is the part you can’t have.

Some nights you reach for the bright one. The slow build of menthol, the lift of botanicals across the chest and shoulders. And for plenty of people, CBD is off the table. Drug testing, pregnancy, or simply a preference to keep it out of the jar.

Cooling Clarity is the same bright cool with the cannabinoid left out. A CBD-free menthol magnesium body butter, aromatic by design.

ii. The Ritual

A slow, breathable cool, massaged across the chest.

Magnesium chloride and 4% buffered menthol carried in raw shea, coconut, and mango butters, with an eight-oil botanical blend woven through. The menthol is buffered so the cool builds gradually and stays breathable. No CBD at all.

The texture is rich and melting. Massage a little into the chest, the back of the neck, the shoulders, or the bottoms of the feet before bed. Start with a little. The cool comes up on its own.

iii. The Standard

How this butter is built.

Cooling Clarity is the most aromatic formula in the line without CBD. It is built on skin-familiar butters, with the menthol buffered so the cool stays breathable, and every one of the eight aromatic oils spelled out by name. On a formula this aromatic, naming everything matters most.

A closer look · Buffered menthol

A closer look at the coolMenthol crystals · buffered · 4%

The cool comes from 4% menthol, buffered so it arrives gradually and stays breathable rather than biting. It is what gives this butter its scent and its cooling character, and this is the most aromatic butter in the line without CBD. One thing to know before you order: the aromatic blend includes wintergreen, which is naturally high in methyl salicylate. If you are salicylate-sensitive, react to aspirin, or take blood thinners, talk with your doctor before using this one.

A little goes a long way. Start small, and let the cool build before you reach for more.

Sensory Notes

A rich, buttery balm that melts as you massage it in. The cool arrives slowly and stays breathable rather than sharp, lifted by a bright botanical aroma. This is a bright, aromatic butter, with the CBD left out.

In the jarFirm and pale. Scoops cleanly and holds its shape.
On contactSoftens at body heat in a few seconds. No working needed.
Massaging it inSlippy, then absorbed. Start with less than you think, because the cool keeps arriving.
The coolComes up over two or three minutes and stays breathable. Never a sharp burn.
Half an hour onThe cool has faded to a background note. Skin feels soft, not filmy.

Scent: loud, on purpose, and the loudest in the line. Sharp eucalyptus and peppermint at the front, wintergreen underneath it, and something warm from the clove. It is the smell of a chest rub, and it fills the room you are standing in. It stays on skin for an hour or more and it will be faintly on your pillow.
That is the whole point of this one, and it is also the reason to be honest: if you are fragrance-reactive, this is not your butter. Pure Descent and Pure Reset are unscented and essential oil-free, and they are the better fit. Eight botanical essential oils, never synthetic fragrance.

How to Use

Patch test first

With a formula this aromatic, try a small amount on the inside of the forearm and wait 24 hours before fuller use.

Warm a small amount

Take a little on clean fingertips and let it soften. A small scoop goes a long way.

Massage across the chest

Smooth into the chest, the back of the neck, the shoulders, or the bottoms of the feet. Slowly, and with more pressure than you think you need.

Start small and wait

Give it a few minutes before you decide whether you want more. The cool builds on its own, and it is easier to add than to take away.

Keep it external

External use only. Wash your hands after, keep away from eyes and broken or freshly shaved skin, and do not layer it over other menthol or essential-oil products.

Where it sits in your routine

This is the spot treatment, for the chest, the neck, the shoulders, or the bottoms of the feet at night. If you want something for all over, the Aurea Calendula Body Crème goes on first after a shower, and this goes on top of the places that want it.

Keep the two apart on the body rather than layering them in the same spot, so the aromatics stay where you put them.

Care & Keeping

How long a jar lasts

Longer than you would guess, because a small scoop is genuinely the dose here. Most people take less after the first week, once they have learned how far the cool travels on its own.

Whether it is preserved, and why

Yes, and here is the reason. Magnesium chloride goes into this butter dissolved rather than as a powder, so there is water in the jar. Water is what makes a preservative necessary. The system is dehydroacetic acid and benzyl alcohol, both ECOCERT-permitted, at the smallest amount that keeps the butter stable.

Benzyl alcohol is here as a preservative rather than a scent ingredient, and it is also a declarable fragrance allergen on EU labels. With eight essential oils in the jar as well, this butter is never called fragrance-free and never could be.

Storing it, and keeping water out

Cool, out of direct sun, lid on between uses. Because there is water in the formula, scoop with dry fingers or a small spatula rather than wet hands, and keep the jar off the edge of the bath. Menthol is volatile, so a lid left off will quietly cost you some of the cool over time.

If it arrives warm, and when to stop

Softening in a hot mailbox is normal. Let the closed jar sit somewhere cool and it will firm up again.

If it arrives separated, with a wet or watery layer sitting apart from the butter, that is a different thing. Do not use it. Send us a photograph and we will replace it. Because this butter carries water, a split jar is not something to work around, and we would always rather send another one.

Sensitivity Transparency

An aromatic formula, made as gentle as cooling gets, and fully disclosed.

I formulate for reactive skin, including my own, and this is the most aromatic butter in the line without CBD. The cool comes from buffered menthol and an eight-oil botanical blend, built to stay breathable rather than sharp. It is deliberately gentle for a formula this aromatic, and it is still bright and aromatic, so I want you to have the full picture first. If your skin is highly fragrance-reactive, a quieter butter will suit you better.

Why it’s made for reactive skin

Buffered mentholCooling that builds slowly and stays breathable. Never a burn.
No synthetic fragranceThe aromatic is all botanical essential oils, never synthetic fragrance.
Properly, gently preservedAn ECOCERT-permitted preservation system, so the butter stays stable.
Quieter options nearbyHighly fragrance-reactive? Pure Descent and Pure Reset are unscented and made for you.

Worth knowing before you reach for it

This is an essential-oil-rich formula. It contains menthol and wintergreen, which is naturally high in methyl salicylate. Take care if you are salicylate-sensitive, allergic to aspirin, or taking blood thinners, and check with your doctor first. Patch test before wider use, and do not layer it with other menthol or essential-oil products at the same time.

Naturally rich in methyl salicylate. If you are salicylate-sensitive, react to aspirin, or take blood thinners, talk with your doctor before using.

Clove Bud OilEugenia Caryophyllus
Naturally contains eugenol, a known fragrance allergen.

Peppermint, Eucalyptus & Rosemary OilsMentha Piperita, Eucalyptus Globulus, Rosmarinus Officinalis
Bright, penetrating botanical aromatics, and common sensitizers for fragrance-reactive skin.

Lavender OilLavandula Angustifolia
Contains linalool and linalyl acetate, aromatic components that some fragrance-sensitive skin reacts to.

Blue Chamomile & HelichrysumMatricaria, Helichrysum Italicum
In the Asteraceae (daisy and ragweed) family, so they can cross-react for ragweed-sensitive skin.

Magnesium Chloride≈ 200 mg magnesium per tsp
The mineral that gives the butter its smooth, grounding feel. Very low-allergen, and it can tingle on broken or freshly shaved skin. That is the magnesium, rather than a reaction.

Shea, Coconut & Mango ButtersRaw & unrefined, organic
The nourishing base. Mango is in the Anacardiaceae family, alongside cashew and pistachio. Shea is tree-derived and clinically low-allergen even for tree-nut-reactive skin. Both are named here for anyone with those specific allergies.

Cetearyl Olivate & Sorbitan OlivateOlive-derived emulsifier
The olive-based system that holds the butter together so it spreads evenly. Plant-derived and low-reactivity.

Benzyl AlcoholECOCERT-permitted preservative
Keeps the formula stable. It is here as a preservative rather than a scent ingredient, and it is also a declarable fragrance allergen on EU labels.

Supporting baseCandelilla wax, dehydroacetic acid, vitamin E
Texture, structure, and freshness, all low-reactivity. Our vitamin E is sunflower-derived, a light sunflower and ragweed (Asteraceae) note for anyone watching that family.

That is everything in the jar. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. Because this one is strong on the senses, patch test first, and talk with your doctor if you are salicylate-sensitive, on blood thinners, or unsure. You know your body best.

Cooling Clarity is a cosmetic. It is made to soften and comfort skin, and it does not treat, cure, or prevent any condition.

Questions, answered plainly

Everything people ask before they try a cooling menthol butter, with nothing dressed up.

Is there a menthol magnesium butter without CBD?
Yes, this is it. Cooling Clarity is a menthol magnesium body butter with no CBD at all, for anyone avoiding it for drug testing, pregnancy, or preference. If you’d like the same cool with full-spectrum hemp added, Deep Clarity is the CBD version.
Can I use it if I’m salicylate-sensitive, allergic to aspirin, or on blood thinners?
Check with your doctor first. The aromatic blend includes wintergreen, which is naturally high in methyl salicylate. If you are salicylate-sensitive, react to aspirin, or take blood thinners, talk with your doctor before using this one. If you’d rather skip essential oils entirely, Pure Descent has none at all.
How strong is the cool, and will it burn?
The cool comes from 4% menthol, buffered so it arrives slowly and stays breathable rather than sharp. Start with a small scoop and give it a few minutes, since the cool keeps building on its own and it’s easier to add than to take away. It’s a cooling sensory experience, not a burning one.
Is it fragrance-free?
No, and it never could be. Cooling Clarity is essential-oil-rich, with eight botanical oils, and it also contains benzyl alcohol, a declarable allergen. It’s the loudest, most aromatic butter in the line, on purpose. If you’re fragrance-reactive, Pure Descent and Pure Reset are unscented and the better fit.
What is the difference between Cooling Clarity and Deep Clarity?
They are the same cooling butter. Cooling Clarity is CBD-free. Deep Clarity is the same cool with full-spectrum hemp added. Your choice on whether the CBD is in or out.
Can I use it if I’m pregnant or nursing?
This is the aromatic, essential-oil-rich one, and it contains wintergreen, so it isn’t the butter we’d point you to during pregnancy or nursing. Pure Descent is the pared-back option many pregnant and breastfeeding people reach for, with no essential oils and no menthol. Either way, check with your doctor or midwife first. It’s a cosmetic, and it doesn’t treat, cure, or prevent anything.
