Founder Story
I know what it costs to react to everything.
Indiefog started because I was getting hives from my shampoo and conditioner bars. I set up in my laundry room and made the version I could actually use. Every ingredient that stayed had a reason I could name, and that became the standard. This is the line I needed, made for the people who need it now.
It began as a necessity.
For years I lived in a system that reacted to almost everything I put on it. I read every label to the end, and I reacted anyway, often enough that I started bracing before I opened anything new. The hives I was getting from my shampoo and conditioner bars were the point I stopped waiting for something on a shelf to work. I set up in my laundry room, which was the largest space I had, and started formulating my own.
What began as survival became a standard. Living with chronic illness had already shown me how much the nervous system carries for the rest of the body, so I went and studied it. Polyvagal theory, and the constant conversation between skin and nervous system. That study sat on top of a background in cellular detoxification, which is where I first learned to think in terms of what a system is already carrying. From there, every ingredient had a second question to answer. What does this contribute, and what does it cost a system that is already managing a full load?
There is enough in an ordinary day that asks something of you. The things meant to help should not be adding to it. That is the whole reason Nervous System Skincare™ exists, and it is why I formulate for the most reactive skin in the room and hold every product to that tolerance. Everything else is built under that ceiling.
That standard governs every decision. Each ingredient is evaluated for what it contributes and for the cost it asks of a depleted system. Each formula is properly preserved and made by hand in small batches. Work like this moves slowly. The pace is deliberate, and it is the part I refuse to rush.
My own system asks for different things now than it did in those early years. The standard I formulate to has stayed exactly where it was. I built Indiefog from inside that experience, and I keep building it for everyone still living there. The line I needed then is the line I am glad to hand you now.
Kikki Avila is a certified detox specialist and the clinical formulator behind every Indiefog product. She has studied polyvagal theory and the nervous system. Indiefog makes skincare, and it sits alongside your doctors, never instead of them.
Thank you for being here.
I formulate Nervous System Skincare™ the way I once needed someone to formulate it for me. Every ingredient is evaluated by physiology and held to what the most reactive skin can carry, so the texture lands gentle and instantly familiar. The ritual is cumulative. The more it becomes part of your days, the more your skin gets to rest.
How Every Formula Is Made
Made slowly, and on purpose.
Formulation Philosophy
Every ingredient is evaluated for what it contributes and for the cost it asks of a depleted system. We choose low-stimulation actives and simple textures, and we leave everything else out on purpose. What stays on the list is there for a reason we can name, and it is made to feel gentle on the most reactive skin.
Craftsmanship & Standards
Every formula is developed slowly. We work in small batches and hold each one to strict criteria for tolerability and proper preservation. Nothing moves forward until it meets that standard, and the time that takes is built into how Indiefog works.
The Method
How a formulation becomes nervous-system aware.
Every Indiefog formula is built to work with the body, at the pace the body can manage. Each ingredient is evaluated for the cost it asks of a depleted system, and it stays on the list only if it earns its place.
What that gives you is a short ritual you can keep. Small batches, properly preserved. Every formula is held to the tolerance of the most reactive skin, and the ritual is cumulative, so it stays easy on the days when nothing else is.
