i. The Signal
When the day won’t quite let go at bedtime.
You are in bed, and the day is still running. Shoulders that have not dropped. That wired-but-tired feeling where rest sits just out of reach. What an evening like that asks for is a soft signal that the day is over.
Gentle Descent is that signal. A calming magnesium body butter for bedtime, and a quiet end-of-day ritual. It is the classic of the line, and if you are new to magnesium butters, this is where most people start.
ii. The Ritual
A grounding butter, massaged in where you wind down.
Magnesium chloride blended into raw shea, coconut, and mango butters, with a whisper of lavender and chamomile at about 1%, never synthetic fragrance. No menthol, no CBD, nothing activating. This is the calm sibling to the active butters, made to be the last soft thing you do at the end of the day.
The texture is rich and melting. Massage a little into the back of the neck, the shoulders, or the bottoms of the feet before bed. The same places you would reach for at the end of a long day.

iii. The Standard
How this butter is built.
The quietest formula in the line is also one of the shortest. Magnesium, raw butters, and a whisper of two botanicals, every one of them named. If even that whisper is too much, it has an essential-oil-free twin, so the choice stays yours.
The hero · Magnesium
A closer look at the magnesiumMagnesium Chloride · about 200 mg per teaspoon
Magnesium chloride is the mineral at the heart of this butter, at about 200 mg of magnesium per teaspoon. We state the number plainly so you can see exactly what is in the jar. It is what gives the formula its smooth, grounding feel, and it is very low-allergen. Some people notice a light tingle on first use, particularly on freshly shaved or broken skin, which is worth knowing before you start.
A little goes a long way. One jar tends to last, used as a nightly ritual.
Sensory Notes
A rich, buttery balm that melts as you massage it in, carrying a soft, grounding note of lavender and chamomile. It leaves a smooth, quiet layer made for winding down. There is no cool, no tingle, and nothing that asks your system to brace.
How to Use
Warm a small amount
Take a little on clean fingertips and let it soften. A small scoop goes a long way.
Place your hands first
Rest your warm hands on the back of your neck or your shoulders for a breath before you start. Let your system register the warmth and know what is coming. It is a small thing, and it is the part that lets your shoulders drop.
Massage where you wind down
Smooth into the back of the neck, the shoulders, or the bottoms of the feet. Slowly, and with more pressure than you think you need.
Before bed
Use it as the last soft step of your evening, as a nightly grounding ritual. Nothing here needs to be rushed.
Keep it external
External use only. Wash your hands after, and keep away from eyes and broken skin.
Where it sits in your routine
This is the spot treatment, for the neck, the shoulders, or the bottoms of the feet at night. If you want something for all over, the Aurea Calendula Body Crème goes on first after a shower, and this goes on top of the places that need it.
Two steps, and the first one is optional. Most people use this on its own.
Care & Keeping
How long a jar lasts
A thumbnail-sized scoop covers the back of the neck and both shoulders, so a jar used nightly lasts a long time. Most people take less after the first fortnight, once they stop scooping like it is a body lotion.
Whether it is preserved, and why
Yes, and here is the reason. Magnesium chloride goes into this butter dissolved rather than as a powder, so there is water in the jar. Water is what makes a preservative necessary. The system is dehydroacetic acid and benzyl alcohol, both ECOCERT-permitted, at the smallest amount that keeps the butter stable.
Benzyl alcohol is here as a preservative rather than a scent ingredient, and it is also a declarable fragrance allergen on EU labels. That is one of the reasons this butter is never called fragrance-free. The lavender and chamomile are the other.
Storing it, and keeping water out
Cool, out of direct sun, lid on between uses. Because there is water in the formula, scoop with dry fingers or a small spatula rather than wet hands, and keep the jar off the edge of the bath. A preserved product is protected, and it still does better when you are not adding shower water to it every night.
If it arrives warm, and when to stop
Softening in a hot mailbox is normal. Let the closed jar sit somewhere cool and it will firm up again.
If it arrives separated, with a wet or watery layer sitting apart from the butter, that is a different thing. Do not use it. Send us a photograph and we will replace it. Because this butter carries water, a split jar is not something to work around, and we would always rather send another one.

Lightly Scented
Formulated for reactive, easily-overwhelmed skin. We suggest a patch test on the inner forearm, left 24 hours, before wider use.
External use only. Keep away from eyes and broken skin, and avoid freshly shaved skin, where magnesium can tingle.
Indiefog products are cosmetics, made to cleanse, soften, and comfort skin, not to treat, cure, or prevent any condition.
Because we prioritize freshness and small-batch production, the list above may occasionally vary from your packaging. The ingredient list printed on your jar always reflects the exact formula inside.

Sensitivity Transparency
A soft, low scent, and honest about it.
I formulate for bodies that react to almost everything, including my own. Gentle Descent is lightly scented, about 1% lavender and chamomile, never synthetic fragrance, for reactive skin that finds comfort in a soft botanical aromatic. If you react to essential oils, there is an EO-free twin made for you. Here is the full picture either way.
Why it’s made for reactive skin
About the scent
Gentle Descent is lightly scented with lavender and chamomile essential oils (about 1%), never synthetic fragrance. It contains essential oils, and it contains benzyl alcohol, a declarable allergen. For both of those reasons it is not labeled ‘fragrance-free.’ If you react to essential oils, Pure Descent is this same butter, made completely EO-free.
Every ingredient, named
Here is everything in the jar. It is lightly scented with lavender and chamomile, and the notes below are written for anyone who reacts to fragrance, essential oils, or related botanicals.

Sensitive to essential oils?
Pure Descent is this same grounding butter, made completely essential oil-free. No lavender, no chamomile, no scent.
That is everything in the jar. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.
If you are navigating a condition, use this alongside your doctors, never instead. Gentle Descent is a cosmetic. It is made to soften and comfort skin, and it does not treat, cure, or prevent any condition.

I love the smell and texture of this magnesium cream.

I’ve always struggled with Cramps during my period, I usually used heat pads and Herbal tea, but this time I also included the Magnesium Butter during the nights before going to bed and it went amazing. I felt less bloated the next morning.

This magnesium butter is incredible, it smells amazing and it truly feels like it applies like butter. I love putting this on the bottom of my feet before bed. It helps me relax, and also helps my achy feet from working on them all day.
Karen (verified owner) –
I used this on my foot that was hurting and no issue the following morning when I stepped out of bed.
Darci Londo –
I’ve always relied on meditation to help me wind down in the evening, but recently life got more demanding and I found myself carrying a lot of tension, especially in my jaw.
Adding IndieFog’s Magnesium Butter to my nightly routine gave me a ritual I genuinely look forward to. The simple act of warming it between my hands and massaging it in has become a calming, grounding moment — a quiet signal to myself that the day is done. It’s the pause I take right before I meditate.
The scent, the texture, and the whole experience feel soft and comforting, and I love having a peaceful self-care moment built into my evening. It’s become a cherished part of my nightly ritual, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a simple, sensory way to slow down at the end of the day.
