Worth knowing — neem & pregnancy

This is the one product in the line that contains neem, a time-honored clarifying botanical. Neem is commonly advised against during pregnancy, and it can be a contact sensitizer for a small number of people. If you’re pregnant or nursing, or you know you react to neem, check with your provider before using it — and patch test first. For everyone else, it’s simply named here so the choice is yours.

Truly fragrance-free

There’s no synthetic fragrance and no essential oils, and as a waterless oil it carries none of the benzyl alcohol found in the water-based butters. Nothing scented at all. The soft, earthy note is simply the cold-pressed oils and algae themselves.

A premium, stable, oil-soluble Vitamin C — among the gentlest — and bakuchiol, a purified plant compound often chosen as a softer alternative to retinol. The Vitamin C is also the formula’s small synthetic portion (about 3%), named for transparency.

Two algae-derived ingredients — green caviar (sea grape) oil and astaxanthin (with its natural companion carotenoids) — plus rosemary and Vitamin E. The astaxanthin is algae-sourced, not shellfish-derived (a reassurance if you have a shellfish allergy); the algae are a light note for the rare algae- or seaweed-sensitive. Sunflower carries the Vitamin E and is in the sunflower / ragweed (Asteraceae) family; rosemary is a mint-family (Lamiaceae) botanical — both light, highly purified notes.
