Plump Elixir

When your skin looks a little deflated.

Dehydrated, tired skin can start to look flat and thin, like it has lost some of its cushion. If you have answered that with a heavier cream, you may have found it brought congestion without any more suppleness.

Plump Elixir was made for that. Eighteen ingredients, with white lupine at the centre, over a light blend of hibiscus, grapeseed and rosehip seed oils. It sinks in within a minute or two and leaves skin soft and cushioned, so it works morning and night.

The hero · white lupine, and one thing to read first

The plump, cushioned look here comes from a white lupine seed extract, in a sunflower oil blend at 2% of the bottle.

One thing to know before you order. Lupine is a legume, and it cross-reacts with peanut. This is a leave-on product, so if you have a peanut or legume allergy, that matters more than it would in something you rinse off. It is named on the label, named here, and named again in Please Note and in the allergens fold. Nothing about it is hidden inside a blend.

Left out on purpose

No water, and no preservative, because there is nothing here for anything to grow in. No synthetic fragrance and no essential oils. No heavy occlusives, which is why it finishes soft rather than greasy.

The baseHibiscus, grapeseed and rosehip seed oils, with a sugarcane-derived hemisqualane and a plant squalane. Together they sink in within a minute or two and leave a soft, dry-touch finish, with pomegranate seed oil for cushion. Formulated to support your skin’s moisture barrier.
The heroWhite lupine seed extract, in a sunflower oil blend at 2%, for a smooth, plump-looking finish. Read the note above before you order if peanut or legume allergy is part of your picture.

Where it sits in your routineStep four, morning and night. Cleanse, then an essence, then a serum, then this pressed in. It can be the last step on its own, or it can go under the Ceramide Barrier Cream or the Defy Face Butter. Once or twice a week the Cacao Renewal Polish or the Radiance Mask goes in after cleansing, and the routine works without it.

Truly fragrance-free, with no caveat. As a waterless oil it carries none of the benzyl alcohol found in our water-based butters. The soft, nutty note is the seed oils themselves.

How to use it

Warm a few drops between your palms

Press a few drops between your palms and let the oil warm before it meets your face.

Place your hands first

Rest your palms over your face for a breath or two before you move. It is a small thing, and it is the part that lets your shoulders drop.

Press it in, slowly

Press gently over the face and neck, moving upward. No rubbing and no pulling.

Three drops by day, five by night

About three drops in the morning, under sunscreen or makeup, and five in the evening, on its own or under a butter or cream.

White Lupine Seed ExtractLupinus Albus · hero · read this one first

The hero, in a sunflower oil blend at 2% of the bottle, and the one ingredient here worth flagging clearly. Lupine is a legume (Fabaceae) that cross-reacts with peanut. This is a leave-on product rather than something you rinse off, so if you have a peanut or legume allergy, check with your provider before using it, and patch test first.

Hibiscus, Grapeseed & RosehipHibiscus Sabdariffa, Vitis Vinifera, Rosa Canina

The three seed oils that make up most of the base. Hibiscus sits in the mallow (Malvaceae) family, grape in the grape (Vitaceae) family, and rosehip in the rose (Rosaceae) family, all named here for those specific allergies.

PomegranatePunica Granatum

Food-derived, here as a pressed seed oil and again as a CO₂ extract.

Squalane & HemisqualaneSqualane, C13-15 Alkane

The light part of the base. A skin-familiar squalane with no scent of its own, which is olive-derived and so sits in the Oleaceae family, and a sugarcane-derived hemisqualane that gives the finish its quick, dry touch. There is no jojoba in this formula.

Sodium Hyaluronate & CastorMade by fermentation · castor bean

The sodium hyaluronate is made by fermentation, which is the note for anyone who tracks ferment-derived ingredients. It is carried in castor oil and hydrogenated castor oil, from the castor bean (Euphorbiaceae) family.

Carrot & Gotu KolaDaucus Carota Sativa, Centella Asiatica

Both sit in the carrot and celery (Apiaceae) family, so that is the note for that allergy. Gotu kola is classed in Apiaceae or Araliaceae depending on the source. The carrot is the root extract, which carries colour and no scent.

Sunflower, Rosemary, Green Tea & Vitamin EHelianthus Annuus, Rosmarinus Officinalis, Camellia Sinensis, Tocopherol

Sunflower arrives as the carrier for the lupine blend, the rosemary and the vitamin E, so it appears on the label. It sits in the daisy and ragweed (Asteraceae) family, and the vitamin E is sunflower-derived as well, never soy. Rosemary is here as the leaf extract, which keeps the essential-oil-free standard intact, and it sits in the mint (Lamiaceae) family. Green tea is here as an antioxidant leaf extract.

The colour, and your pillowcaseRosehip and the CO₂ extracts

The colour comes from the oils and extracts and nothing else. No dye was added to make it that shade, and on very fair skin or light fabric it can leave a trace for a moment before it absorbs.

If you bought an earlier versionRead this one, even if you skip the rest

This is a new formula, lighter and faster to absorb. Prickly pear, jojoba, green tea seed oil and the olive squalane blend came out. Grapeseed oil, a sugarcane-derived hemisqualane, and sodium hyaluronate carried in castor oil went in. Pomegranate is now a smaller part of the base, and the carrot is the root extract rather than the seed. White lupine is still the hero at 2%, so the peanut and legume note above still applies. Read the list again before you reorder, and patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours as you would with anything new.

That is everything in the bottle. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, the lupine especially if you have a peanut or legume allergy, or the sunflower if you are ragweed-sensitive, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.

Care and keepingHow long a bottle lasts, whether it is preserved, and keeping it clean

How long a bottle lasts

A few drops covers a face, and the dropper makes it easy to take less than you think you need.

We have not printed a month figure, because ours would not be yours.

Whether it is preserved, and why not

No, and it does not need one. There is no water in here. A preservative exists to stop things growing in water, and with no water there is nothing to grow in. That is one more thing left out on purpose.

What is in here instead is vitamin E and rosemary extract. Those are antioxidants. They slow the oils turning over time, which is a different job from preserving.

Storing it, and why the bottle is amber

Cool, out of direct sunlight, cap closed. Hibiscus, grapeseed and rosehip are rich in delicate fatty acids that turn faster than most oils, so the amber glass and the small headspace are doing real work. A sunny windowsill and the shelf above a hot shower are the two places to avoid. A drawer or a cupboard is ideal.

If it arrives warm, and when to stop

Warmth in transit is nothing to worry about here. There is no water and no emulsion, so there is nothing to melt and nothing to split. Leave it somewhere cool and it will be exactly as it should be.

What to watch for over a long time is the smell. Plant oils turn eventually, and when they do the scent goes sharp or flat rather than soft. If yours smells different from the bottle you opened, stop using it on your face and tell us, and we will replace it.
