Skin makes less of its own oil as the years go on, and it shows up twice. As a flatness that no amount of moisturiser quite fixes. And as marks left behind by sun, by time, and by a flare that healed badly.

This is one bottle for both. A nourishing vitamin C oil with a visible glow, and bakuchiol working quietly underneath it. Ten ingredients, no acids, nothing to activate.

Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate for the look of a brighter, more even surface. Bakuchiol for the look of smooth, firm skin. Neither one needs an acid or a low pH to do its work.

Both stay stable in the bottle, so there is nothing to mix and nothing to activate, and both build gradually over weeks rather than days. The vitamin C is a synthetic ester, named in full here rather than tucked into the INCI.

Bakuchiol here is the purified compound rather than babchi seed oil. The allergens note below says what that distinction changes for reactive skin.

Left out on purpose

No acids and no retinol. The babchi seed oil is left out on purpose, and only the purified compound is here. No water, so no preservative. No synthetic fragrance and no essential oils.

Why it glowsTwo things, arriving at different speeds. The oil leaves a light film on the surface, and skin under a film returns light evenly. That is the part you see in the first minute, and it is the reason this one is called Glow. The actives are the slower half, and what they support is the look of a brighter, more even surface over weeks.
Meadowfoam is the glowOf everything in the bottle, this is the ingredient the finish depends on. It sits on the surface rather than sinking away, and that thin film is what catches the light. It is held at 8%, brought down a little from where it started so the finish stays luminous in the morning without building into shine by evening.
The two activesTetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, the oil-soluble vitamin C ester, and bakuchiol, the purified plant compound. There are no exfoliating acids in the formula, and nothing here needs a low pH to do its work.
The baseSqualane leads, with coco-caprylate/caprate and caprylic/capric triglyceride behind it. Most of what is in the bottle, and none of it evaporates. Squalane is the lipid skin makes less of from the forties onward, which is the substantive reason it is first on this label. Formulated to support your skin’s moisture barrier.
What came out, and whyRosehip seed oil and green tea seed oil were left out on purpose. They were the two oils in the old formula most prone to turning, so taking them out keeps the oil steadier in the bottle over its life. The olive blend came out with them, so the squalane now arrives neat and there is no olive here at all.
The soothersBisabolol for a calm, comfortable finish, with vitamin E and rosemary extract keeping the oils fresh.
Reach for it when youHave skin that is drier than it used to be. Are looking at marks and want something for the look of them that does not sting. Want a visible glow rather than a matte finish. If you would rather nothing showed on your skin at all, Clear Elixir is the weightless one and it carries the same vitamin C.
ScentNone added. What you may notice is the soft note of the oils, and a faint herbal edge from the rosemary extract, which is in here as an antioxidant.
Where it sits in your routineStep four, and best in the morning. Cleanse, then an essence, then a serum, then this pressed in. Two or three drops is the whole face, pressed rather than rubbed. It is usually the last step, and a butter or cream can go over it on a dry day.

Truly fragrance-free, with no caveat. As a waterless oil it carries none of the benzyl alcohol found in our water-based butters. Three of the ten ingredients are ECOCERT-approved. The faint herbal edge is the rosemary extract that keeps the oils fresh.

What you notice

Initial feelFluid and cushioned. It spreads easily and does not drag.
AbsorptionSinks in without disappearing. Nothing in here evaporates, so what goes on stays on, and that is deliberate.
FinishDewy and visibly luminous. It leaves a light film and it does catch the light. If you want your skin to look matte, this is the wrong one and Clear Elixir is the right one.
LayeringUsually the last step. A butter or cream can go over it on a dry day. Under makeup, Clear Elixir is the better choice.
Over weeksThis is where the actives show. The look of a brighter, more even surface and a smoother-looking skin, arriving slowly enough that you notice it in a photograph before you notice it in the mirror.

How to use it

Two or three drops, warmed

Press two or three drops between your palms and let the oil warm before it meets your skin. That is a whole face. This is a rich oil and more of it will read greasy by afternoon, not glowier.

Place your hands first

Rest your palms over your face for a breath or two before you move. It is a small thing, and it is the part that lets your shoulders drop.

Press it in, slowly

Press gently over the face and neck, moving upward. No rubbing and no pulling. Let the oil sink in on its own.

Pause before you seal

Let it settle for a moment before you reach for anything else. Then follow with a butter or cream if you are using one.

Keep it external

External use only, and away from the eyes.

I formulate for skin that reacts to almost everything, including my own. So I build for less, and I name all of it. Here is everything in the bottle, written for anyone with a specific allergy.

Vitamin CTetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate · an active

A stable, oil-soluble form of vitamin C that stays put in the bottle, with nothing to mix and nothing to activate. It is a synthetic ester, named here for full transparency.

BakuchiolPurified plant compound · an active

The purified isolate, rather than babchi seed oil. A single purified compound carries far less alongside it than a whole seed oil does, so there is less here for skin to argue with. Babchi seed oil is not in this formula and it is not in the line. It sits eighth of ten on the label, which is to say it is present at a low level and named as a second active rather than the thing this formula is built around.

The BaseSqualane, coco-caprylate/caprate, caprylic/capric triglyceride

Most of what is in the bottle. None of it evaporates, which is what makes this a nourishing oil rather than a weightless one. Two of these are commonly coconut-derived, the coco-caprylate/caprate and the caprylic/capric triglyceride, so this is worth knowing if you are coconut-sensitive. Both are highly purified esters rather than coconut oil itself. The olive blend that used to carry the squalane is gone, so there is no olive in this formula.

MeadowfoamLimnanthaceae · the glow carrier

A skin-familiar seed oil that stays stable in the bottle. It is the film-former here, which is to say it is the ingredient that produces the finish this product is named for, and it is the one to look at first if the glow ever seems too much or too little.

Sunflower Seed Oil & Vitamin EBoth sunflower-derived, both non-GMO

Sunflower is an oil line in its own right here rather than only a carrier hiding inside the tocopherol. It carries a light sunflower and ragweed (Asteraceae) consideration. Our vitamin E is sunflower-derived as well, and never soy. Both carry the non-GMO mark.

Bisabolol & Rosemary ExtractSoothing compound, and a mint-family (Lamiaceae) antioxidant

A purified soothing compound, and a rosemary antioxidant that keeps the oils fresh. The rosemary is the leaf extract rather than the essential oil, which is what keeps the essential-oil-free standard intact, and it is what you may catch as a faint herbal note.

If you bought an earlier versionBakuchiol is in. Rosehip, green tea seed oil and olive are out.

A new active went in, and three oils came out. Bakuchiol was added. Rosehip seed oil and green tea seed oil came out, and the squalane no longer arrives in an olive blend, so there is no olive here at all. Squalane is now the largest line on the label. The finish is unchanged from the version you know: still dewy, still a visible glow. If you have been using this for a while, read the list again before you reorder, and patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours as you would with anything new.

That is everything in the bottle. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, the coconut-derived esters if you are coconut-sensitive, or the sunflower if you watch the ragweed family, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.

Care and keepingHow long a bottle lasts, whether it is preserved, and keeping it clean

How long a bottle lasts

Two or three drops covers a face, and the dropper makes it easy to take less than you think you need. This is a rich oil, so more is not better. Four or five drops is the commonest reason a nourishing oil reads greasy by the afternoon.

We have not printed a month figure, because ours would not be yours.

Whether it is preserved, and why not

No, and it does not need one. There is no water in here. A preservative exists to stop things growing in water, and with no water there is nothing to grow in.

What is in here instead is vitamin E and rosemary extract. Those are antioxidants. They slow the oils turning over time, which is a different job from preserving.

If it clouds, or the colour deepens

Two things are normal here, and neither one means the oil has gone off. If the bottle gets very cold, the squalane can cloud. It clears again as it warms and nothing about the oil has changed.

The colour also deepens a little over the life of the bottle, from pale gold toward a warmer gold. That is the vitamin C ambering with time and light, which is what this form does, and it is why the bottle is opaque and why we ask you to keep it out of the sun.

Storing it, and when to stop

Cool, out of direct sunlight, cap closed. A sunny windowsill and the shelf above a hot shower are the two places to avoid.

What to watch for over a long time is the smell. Plant oils turn eventually, and when they do the scent goes sharp or flat rather than soft. If yours smells different from the bottle you opened, stop using it and tell us, and we will replace it.
