You have worked your way through the oil cleansers and the cream cleansers, and your skin does not always want them. Some days a rich wash leaves your face feeling coated rather than clean.

Cloud Cleansing Powder was made for those days, and for the people who read the preservative first, because that is the ingredient that tends to find them. It is a dry powder that turns to a soft cream in your hands, with no oil and no water in it, so there is nothing to preserve.

The hero · an ultra-mild surfactant

The whole cleanse rests on one surfactant, chosen because it is one of the mildest available.

Disodium 2-Sulfolaurate is plant-derived, made from the lauric acid in coconut, and vegan. It lifts oil and the day at a level reactive skin tends to tolerate comfortably, and that is what lets a real cleanse feel this soft. The allergens fold names it in full, with the note for anyone with a coconut allergy.

No water, and no preservative, because there is nothing here for anything to grow in. No oils and no butters. No synthetic fragrance and no essential oils, and no benzyl alcohol. No sulfates, no parabens, no dyes, no talc.

Fragrance-free with no caveat. No synthetic fragrance, no essential oils, and no benzyl alcohol anywhere in it. The faint, dry note you might catch is the oat and tapioca themselves. Sulfate-free is accurate here: Disodium 2-Sulfolaurate is a sulfonate and sodium lauryl sulfoacetate is a sulfoacetate, and neither is a classic sulfate.

What you notice

In handSo light it barely registers in the palm. Fine, soft, and dry, closer to air than to grain.
ActivatedA little water turns it into a soft, low-foam cream that fills the palm. Not much foam, and that is by design.
While you washSmooth and slippy. A quarter teaspoon is plenty.

How to use it

Keep the jar and your hands dry

Water is the only thing that spoils a powder. Dry hands or a dry scoop, every time, and keep the wet hand well away from the jar.

A quarter teaspoon, in one dry palm

Tip about a quarter teaspoon into one dry palm. A little makes more than you expect.

Add water and work it into a cream

With wet fingertips from your other hand, add a few drops of water and work the powder into a soft, low-foam cream that fills the palm.

Massage over damp skin, then rinse

Light pressure and lukewarm water, and let the soft cream do the work. Avoid the eye area, then rinse.

Morning, evening, or once a day

Whichever suits your skin. This is step one either way.

I formulate for skin that reacts to almost everything, including my own. So I build for less, and I name all of it. Here is everything in the jar, written for anyone with a specific allergy.

Colloidal OatAvena Sativa · certified gluten-free · hero

The soft, soothing base. The oat here is certified gluten-free, tested to the below-20 ppm standard, so it does not carry gluten from neighbouring grains. To be precise, that certification sits on the oats rather than on the finished powder. Two honest notes remain. Oats naturally contain avenin, a protein a small number of people with celiac react to on its own. And oat is a contact allergen for a small number of people, most often those with eczema. If either applies to you, decide alongside your doctors, never instead.

Disodium 2-SulfolaurateUltra-mild cleanser · plant-derived · hero

The gentle surfactant behind the soft cream, and one of the mildest cleansing agents available. It is plant-derived, made from the lauric acid in coconut, so it is worth knowing if you have a coconut allergy. Vegan.

Sodium Lauryl SulfoacetateCoconut-derived foam

The gentle foam, coconut-derived, so named here for anyone with a coconut allergy. As a fine powder it is best not inhaled, which is true of the whole jar.

Tapioca Starch & SilicaManihot Esculenta, Silica

The airy slip and soft-focus feel, both low-reactivity and well tolerated.

Snow Mushroom, Panthenol & AllantoinTremella, Panthenol, Allantoin

The softening and conditioning botanicals, all low-reactivity, chosen to leave skin feeling comfortable after the rinse. Tremella is a mushroom, so a small number of people with mold or fungal sensitivity prefer to know it is here.

That is everything in the jar. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, the coconut-derived surfactants if you are coconut-sensitive, or the oat if you are celiac or react to oat on skin, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.

Care and keepingHow long a jar lasts, why it is preserved, and keeping it clean

How long one jar lasts

It looks like almost nothing in the jar, and that is the point. A quarter teaspoon becomes a full palm of soft cream, so the smallest amount cleans a whole face and a jar this size lasts far longer than it looks. A dry scoop keeps it flowing to the last.

We have not printed a month figure, because ours would not be yours.

Whether it is preserved, and why not

It is not, and it does not need to be. There is no water in the jar, so there is nothing for anything to grow in. That is the whole reason this cleanser exists for people who react to preservatives.

Keeping it dry

This is the one rule. Store it somewhere dry with the lid on, and use a dry scoop or dry hands every time. A humid bathroom shelf is fine, as long as water never gets into the jar. If the powder ever clumps, it has met moisture, so keep it away from the sink and out of the shower spray.

If it settles or compacts in transit

Powders settle and can pack down a little on a warm journey, and that is only the powder finding its level. Give the closed jar a gentle shake and it loosens again.
