Skin looks a little rough and uneven, and you want it smoothed. For reactive skin, that is usually where the trouble starts. Scrubs and acids leave you red and stinging, so smoothing turns into the step you skip.

Cacao Renewal Polish was made for that. Seven ingredients, mixed fresh each time, working through warmth and slip rather than through grit or acid. There is no exfoliating acid in it and nothing sharp enough to scratch.

The smoothing here comes from warmth and slip, and the rice is what carries both.

It is milled fine enough that there is no grit between the fingers, so what you feel is glide rather than scratch. That matters because the usual routes to smoother-looking skin are an acid or a grain sharp enough to abrade, and reactive skin pays for both. There is no exfoliating acid anywhere in this jar. It is still a physical polish, so a light hand on reactive skin is the technique, and the page says so twice.

About the scent, said plainlyIt smells faintly of cocoa, warm and a little bitter rather than sweet, closer to how cocoa powder smells than to chocolate. Nothing was added to make it smell that way. Cocoa does not appear on the standard fragrance-allergen lists, and it does carry a real scent of its own, so this one is described as no synthetic fragrance rather than fragrance-free.

This one is described as no synthetic fragrance rather than fragrance-free, and that is deliberate. There is no synthetic fragrance in it and no essential oils, and the warm note is the cocoa itself. Cocoa does not appear on the standard fragrance-allergen lists, but it does carry a real scent, so the stronger claim is not one we make here. The only grain in the formula is rice, which is naturally gluten-free.

How to use it

Mix a small scoop

Stir about half a teaspoon with a little water into a soft, creamy paste. Mix only what you are about to use.

Massage gently, over damp skin

Slow, warm circles, avoiding the eye area. Let the warmth do the work rather than the pressure.

Keep the hand light

This is still a physical polish, even though it works through warmth and slip. On reactive skin, less pressure and more time is the whole technique.

Pause and breathe

Take your time. A light hand is all it asks for, and the few minutes are half the point.

Rinse and follow on

Lukewarm water, pat dry, then your essence, serum, or butter. Once or twice a week.

Rice & CoconutOryza Sativa, Cocos Nucifera

The soft, smoothing base. Rice is a naturally gluten-free grain, and it is the only grain in the formula, which is a reassuring note if you are celiac or gluten-sensitive. Coconut is labeled a tree nut in the US, though coconut allergy is uncommon and separate from true tree-nut allergy, and it is named here for anyone with that allergy.

CacaoTheobroma Cacao

The warm heart of the polish, and the source of its scent. Cocoa is food-derived. Cocoa sensitivity is uncommon, and it is named here for anyone who has it.

Kaolin, Marshmallow & BambooKaolin, Althaea Officinalis, Bambusa Vulgaris

Soft clarifying clay, soothing marshmallow root, and smoothing bamboo. All gentle and low-reactivity.

Snow MushroomTremella Fuciformis

A hydrating botanical used across the line. It is a mushroom, so a small number of people with mold or fungal sensitivity prefer to know it is here.

That is everything in the jar. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, the cocoa or the coconut, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.

How long a jar lasts

Half a teaspoon does a whole face, and you are using it once or twice a week, so a jar goes a long way.

We have not printed a month figure, because ours would not be yours.

Whether it is preserved

It is not, and it does not need to be. This is a dry powder with no water in it, so there is nothing for anything to grow in. That is why the list is seven items long with no preservative among them.

Mixing only what you need

Mix in your palm or a small dish, never in the jar, and mix only as much as you are about to use. A mixed paste has water in it and no preservative to go with it, so it is a fresh thing each time rather than something to keep for tomorrow.

Keeping water out of the jar

Water is the only thing that spoils a powder. Use a dry spoon or dry fingers every time, and keep the lid on. Store it somewhere dry and out of the steam, which usually means a cupboard rather than the shower shelf.

If damp gets in you will see it before you smell it. The powder clumps rather than staying loose, and that is the point to stop using it.

If it arrives in hot weather

Nothing to worry about. A dry powder has nothing to melt and nothing to separate, so heat in transit does not affect it. It may settle in the post, which is why the jar can look less full than you expected. Give it a gentle shake with the lid on.
