i. The Signal

When you want the results of retinol — without the reaction.

Skin that looks a little less smooth and firm than it used to, and a nighttime routine that keeps stalling: every retinol cream you try brings the redness, flaking, and sting that make reactive skin give up. You want renewal you can actually keep up, in a form rich enough to rest in overnight.

Defy Face Butter was made to be exactly that — a gentle, nightly alternative your skin won’t fight.

ii. The Ritual

A grounded, comforting ritual.

A rich, antioxidant-rich night butter built on bakuchiol — a gentle botanical often loved as a softer alternative to retinol — with shea, kokum, rosehip, and goji berry. Used nightly, it leaves skin looking smoother and firmer, softening without any heaviness or heat. A grounded, comforting ritual.

The texture is a buttery balm that melts on contact and sinks into a cushioned, comforted finish — never greasy, never heavy. A little, pressed in at night, is the whole ritual: about 300 applications per jar.

Made for skin that

looks less smooth or firm than before
wants the look of renewal without harsh actives
can’t tolerate retinol or strong night creams
loves a rich, grounding nightly ritual

iii. The Standard

Why this butter is different.

Most renewal night creams lean on strong retinol, water, and fragrance. Defy Face Butter is a waterless, nutrient-dense blend of butters, seed oils, and gentle bakuchiol — held to the standard the most sensitive face demands.

Autoimmune & Sensitivity Transparency

The look of renewal, without the reaction — and open about every ingredient.

I formulate for bodies that react to almost everything, including my own — so I build for less, and I name all of it. Defy gives reactive skin the look of renewal through gentle bakuchiol rather than retinol — a rich nightly butter that leaves skin looking smoother and firmer, never a sting — and it’s genuinely fragrance-free and essential oil-free. If you’re navigating an autoimmune condition, MCAS, eczema, psoriasis, or skin that can’t tolerate retinol, this is renewal’s gentler cousin, with nothing sharp in it. Here’s the full picture — including a couple of notes that matter.

Genuinely fragrance-free

This is one of the products I can call fragrance-free without a caveat. There’s no synthetic fragrance and no essential oils, and as an anhydrous butter it carries none of the benzyl alcohol that, as a declarable fragrance allergen, keeps the water-based products from the claim. The soft, earthy note is simply the shea and seed oils themselves.

Genuinely fragrance-freeNo synthetic fragrance, no essential oils, no benzyl alcohol — the claim holds without a caveat.

Every ingredient, named

Here is everything in the jar — a rich, waterless blend of butters, oils, and gentle bakuchiol. A few things to name clearly: the lupine is a legume that can cross-react with peanut, and both the shea and cacay are tree-nut–derived. The notes below also cover sunflower (the ragweed family) and goji (a nightshade), so you can decide with the full facts in hand.

Open the full ingredient list
LupineLupinus Albus Seed Extract
A gentle, plant-derived botanical — and the ingredient here worth flagging most clearly. Lupine is a legume (Fabaceae) that can cross-react with peanut, so this is the note for anyone with a peanut or legume allergy.

Butters & Nut OilsShea (Nilotica), Kokum, Cacay
The rich, melting base. Both shea and cacay are tree-nut–derived — the note for anyone with a tree-nut allergy, though shea in particular is highly refined and tolerated by many who react to nuts. Kokum is a food-derived seed butter.

Antioxidant OilsGoji, Rosehip, Pomegranate, Sunflower, Astaxanthin
Nutrient-rich oils and a vivid algae antioxidant. Goji is a nightshade (Solanaceae), worth knowing if you avoid nightshades; sunflower is in the daisy / ragweed (Asteraceae) family; rosehip is in the rose (Rosaceae) family; and the astaxanthin is algae-sourced, not shellfish-derived — a reassurance for shellfish allergies.

Botanicals & SupportingBakuchiol, Gotu Kola, Green Tea, Squalane, Castor, Hyaluronate, Vitamin E
Gentle bakuchiol (a purified compound, not a legume), gotu kola in the carrot / celery (Apiaceae) family, and skin-familiar squalane and hyaluronate. Light sourcing notes: the caprylic/capric triglycerides are usually coconut-derived and the Vitamin E (tocopherol) is sunflower-derived (the same sunflower / ragweed family as the sunflower oil above); castor is a very occasional contact sensitizer.

That’s everything — nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause — the lupine if you have a peanut or legume allergy, or the shea and cacay if you react to tree nuts — patch test a small area first. You know your body best.
