Mineral Brightening Elixir was made to be exactly that. A tinted, brightening finish your skin can wear every day, over a waterless jojoba base, with a gentle non-acid vitamin C and no exfoliating acids anywhere in it.

This balm contains zinc oxide, and it is not a sunscreen.
The zinc is here for a smooth, soft-focus finish and for nothing else. It is not tested or intended for sun protection, and no amount of it in a cosmetic makes one. That matters more for this reader than for most, because many autoimmune conditions and a number of common medications make skin photosensitive. Please do not let a mineral tint stand in for real sun care. Wear a dedicated broad-spectrum SPF as the last step of your morning, over the top of this.
Left out on purpose
Sun protection, which this does not offer and does not claim. No exfoliating acids. No water, and no preservative, because there is nothing here for anything to grow in. No synthetic fragrance and no essential oils, and no benzyl alcohol.
- The tintNon-nano zinc oxide and kaolin give the smooth, blurring, soft-focus quality. The colour is iron oxides, named in full as CI 77491, CI 77492 and CI 77499, which are mineral pigments rather than synthetic dyes.
- Not a sunscreen, againThe zinc oxide is a tint and finish ingredient. This offers no sun protection and is not a substitute for it. Your SPF goes on over the top.
- The vitamin CAscorbyl palmitate, an oil-soluble, non-acid form, to soften the look of dullness with no sting and nothing to activate.
- The baseJojoba with olive-derived emulsifiers and bamboo extract, for a smooth, comfortable, conditioned feel on skin that runs dry.
- Made for dry, mature skinThrough perimenopause and after, skin makes less oil of its own. It can look flatter by the middle of the morning, and dullness shows on a dry surface first. This is a waterless, oil-based balm, so it goes on soft over dry skin and stays soft.

Truly fragrance-free, with no caveat. As a waterless balm it carries none of the benzyl alcohol found in our water-based products. The soft, earthy note is the base oils themselves. 98% natural and 2% synthetic, and the synthetic portion is the polyhydroxystearic acid that disperses the minerals smoothly.

How to use it

Find your shade first
Smooth a little along the jaw and let it settle for a minute. It will tell you both how the colour sits and how your skin feels about it.

Start with moisturized skin
Over your serum, oil, or moisturizer, once the layer beneath has settled.

Warm a small amount
A small amount on clean fingertips, warmed briefly to soften the balm.

Press and sheer out
Press over the high points of the face and blend outward. Build as you like, sheer for a hint of glow or layered for a touch more warmth.

Then your SPF
This balm is not a sunscreen. Finish your morning with a dedicated broad-spectrum SPF over the top. It goes on after this, as the last thing you do.

The minerals behind the soft-focus finish and the warm tint. Zinc oxide and kaolin are gentle and well tolerated, and the colour comes from iron oxides, mineral pigments rather than synthetic dyes. The zinc oxide is here as a tint and finish ingredient. This is not a sunscreen and offers no sun protection. Many autoimmune conditions and some medications make skin photosensitive, so please wear a real broad-spectrum SPF over the top.
Vitamin C, Jojoba & BambooAscorbyl palmitate, Simmondsia Chinensis, Bambusa Vulgaris
A gentle, oil-soluble, non-acid form of vitamin C, with skin-familiar jojoba and silica-rich bamboo. All well tolerated. Jojoba is the base here, which is why the balm sits comfortably on dry skin.
The olive-derived texture systemCetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polyhydroxystearic Acid
The emulsifiers and fatty alcohol that let the balm sheer out. Olive-derived, so a light note for the olive-sensitive, and cetearyl alcohol is an occasional contact sensitizer for a few people. Polyhydroxystearic acid is the formula’s small synthetic portion, about 2%, and it is what disperses the minerals smoothly.
Vitamin ETocopherol
A natural antioxidant. One light sourcing note: it is sunflower-derived, never soy, so it carries a light sunflower and ragweed (Asteraceae) consideration, though it is highly purified.
That is everything in the jar. Nothing hidden, nothing implied. If a particular ingredient gives you pause, the olive-derived emulsifiers if you are olive-sensitive, or the sunflower-derived vitamin E if you watch the ragweed family, patch test a small area first. You know your body best.

How long a jar lasts
It sheers out a long way, so a small amount covers more than it looks like it will.
We have not printed a month figure, because ours would not be yours.
Whether it is preserved, and why not
No, and it does not need one. There is no water in here. A preservative exists to stop things growing in water, and with no water there is nothing to grow in. That is one more thing left out on purpose.
What is in here instead is vitamin E and ascorbyl palmitate. Those are antioxidants. They slow the oils turning over time, which is a different job from preserving.
Storing it
Cool, out of direct sunlight, lid on. The base oils mind light and heat more than they mind anything else, so a sunny windowsill and the shelf above a hot shower are the two places to avoid. A drawer or a cupboard is ideal. Clean fingertips into the jar, the same as any balm.
If it arrives warm, and when to stop
Warmth in transit is normal, and a hot mailbox is nothing to worry about here. There is no water in this jar, so there is nothing to spoil and nothing to split the way a cream would. If it arrives soft, leave it somewhere cool and it firms up again.
What to watch for over a long time is the smell. Plant oils turn eventually, and when they do the scent goes sharp or flat rather than soft. If yours smells different from the jar you opened, stop using it on your face and tell us, and we will replace it.
